Viognier

The Viognier grape produces full-bodied wines with heady aromas of peaches, apricots and flower blossoms. The best examples of viognier are unforgettable. The most famous, expensive and scarce wine made from viognier come from the Condrieu appellation of France. Small amounts of Viognier are gradually being planted in many areas of California, including Fair Play.

Viognier can be a challenging grape to grow, with highly unpredictable yields, susceptibility to powdery mildew, and uneven ripening. It prefers light well-drained soils, like those found in Fair Play.

In the winery, Viognier likes gentle handling to minimize oxidation and preserve the beautiful aromas for which it's known.
